About Us

THE AFTK EXISTS TO SERVE ITS MEMBERS

The Australasian Federation of Traditional Karate and Kobudo (AFTK) [オーストララシアン伝統空手古武道連盟 Australasian Dento Karate Kobudo Renmei] was originally established in 1999 and is an industry body that caters to the needs of traditional karate and kobudo practitioners and instructors across Australia and New Zealand. Originally established as the Traditional Karate Federation Inc, in Queensland Australia, by a small group of karate enthusiasts. It now consists of more than 150 member dojo around the region and represents both traditional karate and kobudo. In 2003 the name was changed to the Australian Federation of Traditional Karate to better represent its purpose, and then in 2020 the Federation again evolved to its current name and form—the Australasian Federation of Traditional Karate and Kobudo.

PurposeTo support and collaborate with members to create a thriving community of traditional karate and kobudo practitioners that fosters opportunity for development, networking, and professional practice.

View the AFTK's 2023-2026 Strategic Plan The AFTK also works alongside the Confederation of Australian Sport (CAS) which is an independent, not-for-profit industry voice committed to promoting the contribution of community sport and representing the interests of those organisations and peak bodies involved in community based Sport and Active Recreation, and AUSactive which is Australia's peak body for the exercise and active health sector, to best achieved the AFTK's Vision and Purpose.
