Membership Application

Applying for membership

Membership is open to any traditional karate and/or kobudo dojo that promotes good ethics, and the practice of the traditional elements expressed in karate and kobudo (such as kihon, kata, kumite, self-defence, bunkai) and have a desire to be collegial and form friendly beneficial relationships between AFTK members.
Our members preserve the traditional practices of karate and kobudo, and all follow the traditional principles of budo. The AFTK exists to serve its members. Membership approval is generally decided upon the following three criteria:
1) An endorsement from a current AFTK Member or with a character reference from other upstanding instructors, or by first contacting the AFTK Management Committee2) The preservation of history through the practice of kata (solo forms)and associated practices ; and3) A verifiable lineage that stems back to the roots of karate and/or kobudo that forms the foundation of your tradition.

membership levels

Individual Practitioner
Membership for an individual karateka or kobudoka only. No listing on the Members Register, discounted Member Benefits are only accessible by the individual. Annual Fee: $45.00
Individual Dojo
Membership for a dojo where a single dojo is listed on the Members Register. All students and instructors are included in this membership. Annual Fee: $60.00
Association (3+ Dojo)
Membership for Associations with three or more dojo where all dojo are listed on Members Register, and each dojo gains access to individual Dojo Membership benefits. 3-5 Dojo Annual Fee: $140.00 6-10 Dojo Annual Fee: $190.00 11-20 Dojo Annual Fee: $240.00 21+ Dojo Annual Fee: $290.00

Online - To pay online simply select any of the below Membership Classes. 2. Bank Transfer - Select the 'Bank Transfer' option which will make your fee $0 to pay online, and manually transfer the appropriate fee. You will be given details on the next page and will need to note the reference number on the membership form. Instructions will be given once you select this option. Please note that if you are applying for new membership, there is a non-refundable application fee of $25.00 in addition to the relevant membership-level fee. Please ensure you add this to your application.
